William Henson Moore III was born in 1939 in Lake Charles, La. He received a B.A. from Louisiana State University in 1961, his J.D. from LSU Law School in 1965, and a master's degree in 1973. Moore served as U.S. Representative for the Sixth Congressional District of Louisiana (1974-1987), becoming the second Republican since Reconstruction elected to the House from Louisiana.
